"My Frida piece is very special to me. Frida often said that while her body limited her, her paintings could take her anywhere. As someone who fights with mental illness I frequently feel like a hostage in my brain. I feel like sometimes, the "columns" and foundations of my brain are crumbling much like the painting. It is a comfort to me knowing that even Frida never let her limitations stop her. The Broken Column is one of my favorite representations of her struggle. It feels relatable. I came to James with the painting because I knew he could do it and he is who I knew I could trust with such an important piece. Our first session was like work and shading. James checked in and we took a break when I needed it. He was very patient and understanding throughout the session. Our second session was color and again another wonderful session. Very patient, and he took his time to make sure all of the little details were just right. It was very reassuring to see that doing this piece well was important to James."
